Andrew Waggoner’s Miroir des âmes, two movements on texts of Marguerite Porete for soprano, violin, viola, bass clarinet and cimbalom, was premiered on concerts in Montpellier and Carpentras, France, on August 18th and 19th by the remarkable Ensemble Intercolor. The text by Porete, one of the great, visionary mystics of the 13th century, comes from her Miroir des âmes simples et anéanties, an ecstatic vision of union with the divine that brought about her end at the stake in 1310.
